KEEP SAYING IT!

"Keep saying it! Don't stop talking it!"

Just recalling these words, set my heart ablaze. These are the very famous words of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, which quite a number of us must have heard on television while growing up. And whenever I find myself on the verge of giving up on something or confessing negatively, it is these same words, the Lord uses as a reminder.

Now, when I was much younger, I had no idea what they meant. I just liked the way the fair, fine pastor on TV spoke, and sometimes, I'd mimic him just to see if I could do it. But these days, the words hit me squarely, like stone on fine glass—whenever they come, I feel my doubts and inhibitions shatter.

There is power in our words. Power to make and break. Power to do and undo. Power that can lift us up internally and externally. Over and over again, many people testify of this phenomenon—it's strewn over books and magazines, talk-shows and TV shows, Soap operas and cartoons as well. Many people call it by different names—positive affirmation, pep talk, self-inspiration, the list goes on and on.

But as a believer, I see it as beyond that. There's no doubt in me at all, that even positive confessions change a man in the most amazing ways. I truly believe that no voice makes as much impact as ours, when we hear ourselves speak. But I see it as more than just positive confessions. Because for me, when ever I speak, I speak by faith. My words are faith-filled words—they exude great dynamic power!

And it is for this reason, that these days, I feel a severe check to be conscious of the words I speak—both good and bad. Many times we get so disappointed,—especially with ourselves, with others, or with life in general—and we're tempted to voice out the despondent state of our hearts at those points. But we must learn to tame our tongues (and with time, our thoughts), so we do not drag ourselves down by our very words.

Look in the mirror and remind yourself:

that you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

that God watches over you, day after day.

that no weapon formed against you can prosper.

that you were made for signs and for wonders.

that through you, nations shall be blessed.

Whenever the words of doubt hit your soul, shake them off and speak out life. Keep saying it! Don't stop talking it!
