For some reason, we find this hard to really believe as children of God. With so many responsibilities on our plate, so many people to look after, with so many things on our minds, we're often scared that if we were to ever take a breather, everything would come crashing down. And this is the reason why we often times end up breaking before learning this very crucial lesson (sometimes, we still don't!)
I've said it before in previous posts that I was something of a worry-wart. And with a steady influx of responsibilities coming my way, the good Lord knew he had to check it, or I'd keep gassing out. For this reason, time and time again, he's had to remind me that he's here too.
Like I wrote in one of my previous posts, "Don't fret, dear believer—you're in a partnership", we need to realise that our senior partner is capable.
You've got a wayward child? He can handle him or her more than you ever could.
Have you got overwhelming tasks ahead, and because of them you find it hard to breathe? Breathe, beloved. He'll hold them up while you do (and if you want, he could hold you both even when you're done taking your breather).
Do you have people looking up to you that you feel you need to be strong for, that you feel because of them you have to put up a strong front always? Why don't you let him lead them for you.
Take a breather, love. Take it. He wants you to be happy too.
It's true our goal as believers isn't our happiness, but God isn't against it either. In the midst of the storm, he wants you to breathe. In the midst of the turbulence, he wants your heart, mind and body to be well rested. He wants you to be at peace. He wants you to smile regardless, and feel sheer joy. He has plans to prosper you. To fill you with joy till your cheeks can't stand the strain of smiling, and your eyes have to share in the joy by leaking out tears.
He wants your soul to be filled with relief and gratitude—the kind you can only experience when you lean.
So, please beloved, lean. Trust him to shoulder your burdens. He can and will. Trust him to handle those tasks when you're in over your head, and you can't for the life of you, keep going. Trust him to be there for them and for you.
Just look at our lovely birds, beloved. They don't even toil or struggle, yet our Father watches out for them, and creates several avenues for them to be taken care of. How much more you and your cares?
You are loved, loyally.
